This Portfolio has been designed to showcase my work, understanding, and knowledge gained through Virginia Tech’s Instructional Technology Masters of Arts program.  The Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) defined the five domains of Instructional Technology: design, development, utilization, management, and evaluation. (Seels & Richey, 1994) My main goal for the program was the desire to learn how to better integrate technology into education, and to translate pedagogical research and practice into instructional curriculum specifically designed to produce desired learning outcomes.

My background: I am an instructional designer for Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA. I work with the three educational bodies associated with Carilion, which are Jefferson College of Health Sciences (JCHS), the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSoM), and Carilion's Medical Education program (MedEd). Our largest client is JCHS and we are currently pushing a large online education initiative. I recently sat on the committee that designed and created the Blackboard LMS template that will be a part of all online education at JCHS. I support Blackboard mainly on the instructor/design side, but work very closely with our system administrator on the technical side and do what I can to help. I am working with the online faculty and helping them design, create, and ultimately implement their online courses. I have experience in managing large scale projects, such as determining the software and hardware needs of a computer lab by reaching out to the faculty and staff, as well as multiple IT teams. I am currently researching, pricing, and setting up demonstrations to administer an online course catalog for JCHS that will enhance the end-user's experience on Jefferson College's website.

I came to Carilion Clinic as a middle school teacher. I taught 6th and 7th grade Pre-Advanced Placement Science for 7 years. Teaching is my passion, so moving into a position where I was able to continue training and educating was imperative for me. I have a new found love for assisting other educators and SMEs in deploying their content by using instructional design principles, such as ADDIE.

I am happily married to my best friend, Chase and we have a son named Nolan.  We have two dogs, Lily and Parker.  I enjoy spending time with family and friends, volunteering at animal shelters, learning and developing my ID skills, and am an avid member of my church.
